Pure Green Farms to launch Indiana greenhouse
South Bend, Ind.-based Pure Green Farms will begin to grow, package and distribute fresh leafy greens in February.
The new 4-acre hydroponic indoor farm plans to supply more than 8 million retail units of leafy greens in the first year with room to quadruple in size in the future, according to a news release.
“We’re excited to grow our leafy greens right here in the Midwest all year long,” CEO Joe McGuire said in the release.
Operations will use sun and a little bit of artificial light to maximize efficiency.
Automated gutters will adjust to allow for increased spacing between plants while growing. There will also be automatic seeding, harvesting and packing technology.
The climate-controlled process won’t include pesticides, according to the release.
Also, Pure Green Farms will distribute its variety of greens to a select region to minimize shrink and overall waste in the interest of environmental sustainability and consistency for consumers.
