The Packer is seeking industry input for both suppliers and buyers in a survey about greenhouse vegetables.

The survey is part of the research and reporting for the March 29 Greenhouse Vegetable Marketing Section. Please fill out the survey by March 20.

All the questions are optional, but The Packer values your thoughts on each one.

The survey questions include:

  • In your opinion, what are the top characteristics of greenhouse vegetables that make them appealing to the consumer? (quality, appearance, taste, no pesticides, et cetera)
  • What are the messages on consumer packaging that stir demand for consumers? (taste-related, variety, sustainability, social responsibility, health messages, Organic, no or low pesticides, origin)
  • What greenhouse vegetable has increased the most in sales over the past year, and what do you think are the reasons behind the increase? What vegetable commodity has the most potential to grow in the next five years?
  • Do you think retail private label greenhouse vegetables is a trend that may increase in the future? If so, why? Should proprietary greenhouse vegetable varieties be a component of private label programs?
  • What are the biggest packaging trends for greenhouse vegetables in the next year?
  • Based on current conditions, do you think the growth of organic production of greenhouse vegetables will trend above the entire category?
  • The hardest thing about developing and commercializing new varieties of greenhouse vegetables is:
  • How important is the perception of “local” in greenhouse vegetable marketing at the retail and consumer level? Has that consumer attitude toward the importance of “local” changed during the COVID pandemic?
  • Are greenhouse vegetables positioned well for online grocery/e-commerce? In what ways could the greenhouse vegetable industry better benefit from online sales?
  • How can greenhouse vegetables capture bigger foodservice sales?
  • How much of a threat will vegetable production from indoor/vertical farms be to traditional greenhouse vegetables in the next five years? and
  • One reason I am optimistic about the future of greenhouse vegetables is...

Again, thanks for participating. Take the survey here.
