Texas crossings dominate for U.S. Mexican avocado imports

The Texas cities of Pharr and Laredo represent the top two ports of entry for Mexican avocados, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics.

The Texas cities of Pharr and Laredo represent the top two ports of entry for Mexican avocados, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics.

From October 2019 through September this year, Pharr accounted for 1.07 billion pounds of Mexican avocados, ranking it as the number one crossing point for that fruit.

The port of Laredo in Texas was not far behind, accounting for 967 million pounds, according to the USDA.

The USDA said Nogales, Ariz., was third, with 25.9 million pounds, and Progreso, Texas, was fourth with 19.5 million pounds.
