The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has revised rules that govern the movement of plant pests.

The 116-page regulation aligns plant pest regulations with current agency policies, according to a news release.

“These changes make the permitting process faster and simpler for certain low-risk pests and pathogens while allowing us to focus our resources regulating high-risk organisms,” the USDA said in the release.

The final rule will publish in the Federal Register on June 25 and will be effective on Aug. 9.
