Glennville, Ga.-based G&R Farms has redesigned its Vidalia onion bag, box and bin packaging as part of the company’s new brand image.

Planned to be retail stores by the end of April, the new packaging includes new photography showcasing the third-generation family farm along with the “Grown with Passion, Served with Pride” tagline, according to a news release.

Starting in 1945, G&R Farms now has 5,000 acres encompassing several crops with a main focus on sweet onions from Georgia and Peru. The company also packs, markets and ships the onions.

“We’re proud of our roots and our long history with sweet onions,” Walt Dasher, vice president, said in the release.

“My grandfather, Walter L. Dasher, was one of the pioneers who helped put Vidalia onions on the map as a widely popular brand. The new look has provided us with an opportunity to tell our story especially on our new Vidalia bag packaging.”

The back of the bag features information for consumers to download a free “Taste the Memories” recipe booklet from the G&R Farms website. The e-book highlights the family’s history, features their tried-and-true recipes and gives sweet onion storage and preparation tips.

G&R Farms devotes an average of 1,500 acres to Vidalia onions each year and has also expanded its certified organic acreage.

“Our organic Vidalia bag packaging has a similar look with a different color palette, so shoppers can easily distinguish this on the shelf,” Dasher said in the release.

There is also information about the company’s sustainability efforts, including taking social responsibility for its farmworkers.
