Fresh mushroom grower-shipper Giorgio Fresh Co. is acquiring Country Fresh Mushroom’s packing and distribution/sales operations, through subsidiary Giorgio.

Many grower-members of the Country Fresh cooperative have agreed to continue supplying the company, and the Country Fresh brand will remain, according to a news release.

The purchase includes Country Fresh packing operations in Phoenix, Ariz., and Toughkenamon, Pa., and the company’s trucking arm, CF Logistics LLC, which will operate as a division of Giorgio Foods Xpress LLC.

“Country Fresh has a great history in the mushroom industry and we are excited to integrate their fresh mushroom business into the Giorgio family,” Joe Caldwell, president of Giorgio Fresh Co., said in the release. “We will work closely to continue to provide all of our customers with the highest level of quality and service.”

Country Fresh supplies retail and foodservice companies in California, Arizona, some upper Midwest states and most of the states east of the Mississippi River, according to its website.

“Working together with Giorgio will allow us to better serve our customers and help them grow their mushroom category,” Ed Leo, CEO of Country Fresh Mushroom, said in the release. “We fully expect to execute a seamless transition for everyone.”

Giorgio Fresh, Blandon, Pa., was founded in 1928 and is a third-generation family business. The Country Fresh Mushroom cooperative of growers was founded in 1925, according to the news release.
