IGA, Flashfood Partner to Help Independents Reduce Shrink

The Independent Grocers Alliance is partnering with Flashfood, an app-based marketplace that connects consumers with fresh food at affordable prices.

This collaboration will give IGA’s network of independent grocers access to proven technology that reduces shrink, drives incremental revenue and delivers measurable environmental benefits, according to a news release.

Through the partnership, retailers can integrate Flashfood’s digital platform into IGA stores to sell fresh items including meat, produce, dairy, bakery and center-store goods at significant discounts to shoppers via the Flashfood app. Customers browse and pay for these items on their phones, then pick them up in-store.

Benefits for Independent Grocers:

  • Reduced shrink: By offering surplus and close-coded products through Flashfood, grocers recover revenue that would otherwise be lost to waste.
  • Environmental impact: Flashfood has already diverted over 150 million pounds of food from landfills. With IGA’s participation, independent retailers will play a larger role in reducing the climate impact of food waste.
  • New customer engagement: The app introduces grocers to new shoppers, while creating loyalty with existing customers through savings and sustainability.
  • Operational simplicity: Flashfood’s turnkey solution is easy to implement and backed by dedicated support to ensure a smooth onboarding experience for grocers of all sizes.

IGA members and those curious about Flashfood and IGA can attend From Waste to Revenue: Smarter Strategies for Grocery Profitability, the first of two webinars, on Oct. 14. During the webinar, IGA and Flashfood will share real-world examples of grocers who have cut shrink by up to 27%, captured $28-plus in incremental in-store spend per order, and attracted shoppers who visit 3.9 times more often.
