Rave harvest and promotions begin
The 2020 Rave apple harvest has begun.
Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt Growers reported in late July that the early variety is being shipped to grocery stores across the U.S.
Harvested from Stemilt’s Mattawa, Wash., orchards, Rave apples have sized well this year with great eating qualities and beautiful coloring, according to a news release.
This is the fourth season that Rave has been commercially available, according to the release, and supply is expected to be available into October.
According to Nielsen data from last year, Rave added average sales of 48 pounds per store per week to produce departments that were already selling 854 pounds of apples per week from mid-August to the beginning of September. Surveys revealed 65% of Rave apple sales came from households that weren’t buying apples during the August-September period the previous year, according to Stemilt.
