Through its ambitious remodel program, Target is on a mission to elevate the shopping experience at its stores and Drive Up stations across the county. It recently completed its 1,000 remodel at a store in St. Petersburg, Fla., which features the retailer’s latest store design.

On its corporate website, the Minneapolis, Minn.-based retailer said its “stores-first strategy is continuing to pay off and help Target grow,” citing a 2-4% sales bump in its updated stores in the first year post-remodel.

Target’s produce departments are part of the refresh designed to deliver that elevated shopping experience. Its remodeled produce departments appear light and bright with warm display fixtures featuring wood and wood tones. See the before and after here.

This year, the retailer has accelerated its remodel program, with nearly 200 full-store remodels planned through the year. It is also undertaking almost 200 fulfillment remodels, which specifically focus on building capacity for its same-day services like Order Pickup and Drive Up to create an easier experience for its guests and team members, the company said.

When Target remodels a store, it tries to do so with minimal impact to shoppers. It keeps the store layouts similar to the original so its customers can easily find things, and keeps its renovation timelines short to limit disruption, the company said.

The remodels also have an environmental element. As part of its Target Forward goals, the retailer aims to switch each of its stores over to natural refrigerants by 2040. It also continues to add to its 150 locations that currently offer electrical vehicle charging stations with additional installs at select stores across the country.
