Monterey Mushrooms awards 76 scholarships

Watsonville, Calif.-based Monterey Mushrooms has presented scholarships to 76 students, for a total of $182,000 in scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year.

Watsonville, Calif.-based Monterey Mushrooms has presented scholarships to 76 students, for a total of $182,000 in scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year.

About $169,000 was given to children of Monterey Mushrooms employees in the U.S., according to a news release, and another $13,000 was awarded to students in Mexico.

Dependent children of full-time employees are eligible to apply for a higher education scholarship up to $3,000 and for up to four years.

The Monterey Mushrooms scholarship program began in 1992, and was renamed the Carl Victor Fields Scholarship Program in 2004 to honor the company’s past vice president of marketing. Since it began, 2,293 grants have been awarded for a total of more than $3.18 million, according to the release.

“For 28 years we have been honored and privileged to be able to support these dedicated young people in their educational pursuits,” Shah Kazemi, president and CEO of Monterey Mushrooms, said in the release. “We look forward to watching these excellent young people succeed in the future.”
