McAllen, Texas-based SiCar Farms has completed the installation of a massive rooftop solar energy system.
Considered the largest rooftop solar project in South Texas, the system took five weeks to install and was finished in December, according to a news release.
“Solar energy isn’t just clean energy — it’s sustainability,” Luis Gudino, CEO at SiCar Farms, said in the release. “Our focus is to work smart with investments in technology efficiencies — specifically in an eco-friendly way that is good for our planet, our health, and the overall economy.”
The estimated amount of savings from the use of solar panels will generate a minimum of between 1,182,000 KWH to 1,341,000 KWH annually, the release said. That energy saving translates to the equivalent of 875 cars driving 9.1 million miles annually, 425,000 gallons of gasoline, 4,140,000 pounds of burned coal and 540,599,040 charged smartphones, the release said.
“Solar energy is here to stay and is the earth’s most generous energy source,” Gudino said in the release. “We believe that the greatest benefit from this investment for SiCar Farms has been the advantage of being energy self-sufficient. In today’s high demand and volatile energy market, capturing control and generating our own electricity safeguards us against any future energy cost increases.”
SiCar Farms is participating and exhibiting at the Southeast Produce Council show in Orlando, Fla., in booth No. 804, March 2-4, and at Viva Fresh from March 30-April 1 in Grapevine, Texas, in booth No. 317, the release said.
