On July 1, U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Falfurrias Checkpoint in Texas (about 67 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border crossing at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge) arrested two U.S. citizens attempting to smuggle 12 undocumented immigrants in a tractor-trailer load of onions.

The agents referred the tractor-trailer for a secondary inspection after a Border Patrol K-9 alert, according to a news release. The agents found the immigrants attempting to conceal themselves among the bags of onions.

The agents offered medical attention to the people in the trailer, who declined. All parties involved will be processed accordingly, according to the release. The case is being referred for prosecution.
