Third-party logistics provider RLS Logistics, Newfield, N.J., is ramping up its direct-to-consumer business to respond to rising demand.

The company is renovating two facilities and considering adding a Midwest facility. In doing so, RLS Logistics will be able to serve an existing client base while meeting a goal of being the “fulfillment partner of choice for new and growing D2C (direct-to-consumer) companies and retail operations,” according to a news release.

RLS Logistics completed renovations at its Salt Lake City logistics center, allowing it to accommodate additional fulfillment lines.

“Market trends, including the rapid growth of direct-to-consumer brands, have led to more and more companies who are looking to partner with a quality 3PL provider,” Anthony Leo, president and CEO of the RLS Warehousing Group, said in the release. “By outsourcing packaging and fulfillment operations to RLS, companies of all sizes can avoid huge capital investments in facilities and equipment, ship products faster, and reduce freight costs; while not compromising on product quality.”

Similar renovations are planned for the Newfield logistics center, more than doubling its capacity, and also adding a dry warehouse location at the Vineland, N.J., facility. That project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2020, according to Ken Johnson, executive vice president of the Warehousing Group.

“At the same time, we are evaluating potential locations to establish a D2C fulfillment center in the Midwest which will solidify our ability to provide two-day ground transportation to all 48 contiguous states,” Johnson said in the release.

RLS Logistics has four locations in New Jersey, and others in Pittston, Pa., and Salt Lake City.

The company is a U.S. Department of Agriculture certified re-packer, with services that include cold storage in Global Food Safety Initiative certified facilities and less-than-load transportation.
