Produce Alliance LLC, Chicago, has donated fresh produce to health care workers at an area hospital.

The company’s charitable arm, Produce Alliance Foundation, on April 2 partnered with Testa Produce, Chicago, to drop off 150 boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

The company’s network of produce growers and distributors aided in the giveaway. As medical workers end shifts, they’re able to take fresh produce home so they don’t have to make a trip to stores, according to a news release.

“It is such an amazing feeling to support these heroes who are working around the clock to help us during this devastating time,” Melissa Melshenker Ackerman, president, said in the release. “We wanted to do something to help nourish them when they leave exhausted and take one worry off their plate.”

Produce Alliance plans to broaden the program across the country through its national distribution network. For more information, contact Melshenker Ackerman at Melissa@producealliance.com.

“As COVID-19 continues to impact our community, we are seeing an outpouring of support to our incredibly hardworking staff here at Advocate Illinois Masonic and across our health system,” Chris Toft, vice president of development, said int the release. “This very generous donation is one of many we have received and are extremely thankful for. Each means so much to our team members.”
