Torn & Glasser’s Bob Glasser ‘worked hard, played hard’
Robert Glasser, who started each morning at 2 a.m. for 60 years opening the family business, Torn & Glasser, has died.
Glasser died Dec. 22. He was 87.
Torn & Glasser, which imported, processed and distributed nuts, dried fruit and other items, is across from the Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market.
“Bob epitomized ‘work hard, play hard.’ When he wasn't building the business, he maximized every opportunity to enjoy life,” according to his obituary in The Los Angeles Times.” His affinity for the food industry extended to planning his days around meals, dining out and tracking the world's most renowned restaurants.”
Glasser had many interests, ranging from traveling, gourmet cooking, jazz and classical music, photography, sport fishing and sailing his catamaran, according to the obituary. He was an expert model plan and ship builder and competed in duplicative bridge.
“To say he was a voracious reader doesn't begin to describe how much he read daily and the knowledge and stories he consumed,” according to the obituary.
“He inspired those who worked with him, many of whom expressed deep gratitude for his friendship and guidance for decades,” according to the obituary.
The Fresh Produce & Floral Council sent a notice to members on the Glasser’s death and passed condolences to his family.
