Church Brothers Farms launches Little Gem retail pack

Church Brothers Farms developed a new clamshell for its Little Gem lettuce that protects and showcases the premium variety at retail.

The new patent pending 4-count clamshell is designed to protect the unique properties of the compact-sized lettuce while providing more product visibility on shelf. The package is stackable for multiple retail merchandising options and is 100 percent recyclable with more than 70 percent post-consumer material. Shoppers can easily open and reclose the clamshell for convenient use and storage at home.

Church Brothers Farms utilizes a special variety of Little Gems and each head is hand trimmed to deliver the most tender and sweet lettuce. Little Gems are a cross between the crunchy texture of Romaine and the softer frilly texture of butter lettuce. The sweet and mild flavor can be used in a wide variety dishes, especially those with bold ingredients and flavors.

“Our innovation around Little Gems was inspired by the responses we received from shoppers about this unique product,” said Rick Russo, senior vice president of sales and marketing. “Little Gems are a convenient and appealing option for the home cook; something that can change up their everyday salad routine. We wanted to complement the product with a package that elevates it to something special and stands out on shelf.”

The company launched a 60-count carton for foodservice customers earlier this year.

Russo said, “Little Gem lettuce is the perfect product for both channels. Its versatility inspires creativity in home cooks and culinary professionals alike.”

Church Brothers Farms Little Gem lettuce in the new 4-count clamshell is now shipping nationwide.
