New year’s resolutions are on everyone’s mind this time of year making it the perfect time to promote one of Stemilt’s most successful brands, Lil Snappers.

These “lil” fruits will market themselves in colorful, bold, and informative packaging as a healthy grab-and-go snack for kids. Stemilt’s marketing director, Brianna Shales, explains how retailers can easily promote Lil Snappers® to the parent-child demographic.

“It’s a great snacking solution for kids. January is a key time for apples and produce because people are trying to reset what they’re eating,” said Shales. “The 3lb. size for most Lil Snappers® apple and pear packs provides shoppers with the right quantity of fruit to serve to two kids every day for a week. The 3lb. size profile also tops Nielsen data for packaged apples, making up 30% of apple sales during the January through May timeframe.”

Lil Snappers® come in a stand-up pouch designed with colorful graphics to capture the attention of parents and kids as they shop. The packaging tells the consumer exactly what’s inside, the size of the fruit, and how much they’re getting. The grab-and-go convenience makes Lil Snappers® an ideal pack to merchandise for impulse sales of something all parents are looking for: healthy, quick, and easy food additions to any lunchbox.

“Lil Snappers® has ten years of success at retail and that’s because it provides retailers and shoppers with convenience and quality,” explained Shales. “We’re putting premium quality fruit in Lil Snappers® bags and favorite kid varieties!

That means the customer is having a great experience and they can rely on Lil Snappers® for that consistency.”

You will find some fan-favorite apple varieties including Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, Pink Lady®, and Honeycrisp in Lil Snappers® pouches. All these core varieties will be available through winter, spring, and into the summer. Since kids tend to gravitate towards the sweeter end of the spectrum when it comes to apple flavors, Fuji is a great variety for sweetness. Tart apples, such as the Granny Smith or Pink Lady®, are ideal for dipping into peanut butter.

“The New Year is a great time to build apple sales because of that healthy eating focus consumers have. We have promotion opportunities and great qualities of Lil Snappers® to help retailers move apples in volumes,” said Shales.

“Since this is a Stemilt-owned brand, we can go beyond the point of sale and deploy digital tactics that help retailers market Lil Snappers® and pull shoppers to purchase them at their stores.”

Lil Snappers® have proven to sell in physical stores and in online grocery environments.  These mini fruits are shipped in a 9/3lb. configuration in display-ready cartons, meaning the box that it ships in is the same box that retailers can display the bags of apples in. The fruit’s fixed weight also makes it simple for online shoppers to understand quality, quantity, and pricing of the product they are buying. This ultimately drives apple purchases for pick-up or delivery shoppers.

“The fact that they’re in a stand-up pouch makes it a really good grab-and-go option,” said Shales. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve seen a higher resurgence around convenience because people just want to get in and out of the store or they’re shopping for groceries online now. It’s the perfect time for retailers to bring Lil Snappers® in for promotions to support their apple category performance.”
