Tanimura & Antle expands Artisan Dew Drop cabbage

Tanimura & Antle expands Artisan Dew Drop cabbage

Dew Drop cabbage is expanding in Tanimura & Antle’s Artisan product line.

Artisan Dew Drop cabbage is a teardrop-shaped variety with a shelf life of 21 days that can sub in for traditional varieties of cabbage in recipes, boasting a more tender texture and sweeter taste than a standard head of cabbage, according to a news release.

The cabbage head’s petite size and unique shape allows for quick and easy preparation, as well as flexibility in size and cuts, according to Salinas, Calif-.based Tanimura & Antle.

Available in a 24-count foodservice case, Dew Drop cabbage joins lettuce, Romaine, sweet broccoli and sweet red onions in the Artisan roster.

While the initial interest and demand for the product stems from restaurants and foodservice customers, Tanimura & Antle chief marketing officer Jeff Jackson also sees potential at retail stores as well, the release said.

The Artisan Dew Drop two-count retail bag includes a recipe suggestion for consumers.

During the past year, Tanimura & Antle’s product development staff has been testing the item at their various growing locations to ensure year-round availability and has now increased the volume of the program.
