The promotion celebrates the father-son themes in the movie, according to a news release, with easy breakfast, smoothie, salad, snack and soup recipes.
“In honor of Disney’s ‘The Lion King,’ we’re out to crown dads of all ages ‘Kings of the Kitchen’ in pursuit of healthier households and a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables,” said Melanie Marcus, Dole’s nutrition and health communications manager, in a news release. “We know that preparing and serving healthy meals simply has to be a whole-family (pride) effort — and Dole is here to help.”
The 10 new recipes are part of Dole’s Powering the Hero Within healthy-living initiative (#DoleHero), inspired by “The Lion King,” which debuts in theaters on July 19.
Dole is featuring characters from the movie, including Simba, Nala, Timon and Pumbaa on millions of bananas and pineapples in the U.S. and Canada through Labor Day. The promotion includes social, digital and blogger content, and a consumer contest with prizes.
