Exhibitors and sponsors can now register for the Texas International Produce Association’s Viva Fresh Expo 2018.

The event is scheduled for April 5-7 at the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort and Spa in San Antonio.

The show, in its fourth year, attracts buyers from major regional and national retailers, with attendance and exhibitor space frequently sold out.

“We’ve seen increased attendance from retail and foodservice buyers from companies including H-E-B, Wal-Mart and US Foods, and 100% of our surveyed retailers say the expo meets their business needs,” Dante Galeazzi, president and CEO of TIPA, said in a news release.

“Since we know this region is a main focus for attendees, we’ve increased our outreach to include more regional growers and revamped our exhibitor list so the majority of exhibitors will be from Texas, Mexico, and the Southwest United States.”

In 2016, $5.4 billion worth of produce — about half of fresh produce imports from Mexico — entered the U.S. through land ports in Texas, according to the release. The Viva Fresh Expo works to reinforce the importance of the Rio Grande valley region in the produce industry, according to the release.

Educational topics planned for the show include a food safety focused virtual tour of a Mexican growing and packing operation; and industry challenges such as a multi-generational marketplace and Amazon’s effect on the future of retailing and marketing, according to the release.
