The Atlanta-based greenhouse grower says it is on target to donate more than 3 million pounds of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, peppers and leafy greens by the end of the year.
While the original request was made about a decade ago, the North American High Bush Blueberry Council says this new market will create opportunities for U.S. berry growers.
The company says it has worked with the Department of Labor to implement corrective measures after an investigation found some workers were paid the incorrect adverse effect wage rate and safety and health violations in housing and transportation of workers.
The kits are the direct result of expanded research into the latest taste trends ranging from fruits, herbs and spices to low-sugar, smoke and char preferences, the company says.
