April fresh apple holdings down 12%

U.S. fresh-market apple holdings on April 1 totaled 51.2 million bushel cartons, down 12% from a year ago.

U.S. fresh-market apple holdings on April 1 totaled 51.2 million bushel cartons, down 12% from a year ago.

The U.S. Apple Association also reported April 1 U.S. fresh apple holdings were off 4% from the five-year average.

By variety, the report said April 1 fresh variety holdings, compared with a year ago, were:

  • Fuji: 6.24 million cartons, down 14%;
  • Gala: 9.82 million cartons, down 9%;
  • Golden delicious, 2.33 million cartons, down 39%;
  • Granny smith, 5.98 million cartons, down 41%;
  • Honeycrisp, 3.7 million cartons, up 9%;
  • Pink lady: 2.98 million cartons, up 16: and
  • Red delicious: 15.01 million cartons, down 4%.
