One Banana has implemented measures to increase water efficiency on their plantations.

The company again observed World Water Day on March 22, established by the United Nations in 1993 for the sustainable management of water resources.

One Banana has put in place several water-related strategies, according to a news release:

  • The company has invested in 18 reservoirs with a capacity of more than 386 million gallons to capture water during the winter for use in irrigation when climate conditions require it;
  • One Banana employs irrigation technologies have contributed to a 50% reduction in the use of water at the plantations;
  • The company participates in seven technical river basin working groups in the Southern and Southwestern Coast of Guatemala, working to promote efficient use of river and minimizing floods; and
  • One Banana trains more than 80 community leaders and workers for 88 hours to implement Local Response Coordination Systems for the management and prevention of natural disasters in partnership with the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction.
