Fresh Taste Produce Ltd. at the Ontario Food Terminal in Toronto has made a significant investment into cooling technology, said Julian Sarraino, chief operating officer.

The new technology eliminates the use of hydrochlorofluorocarbons, he said, and “drastically reduces” the quantity of ammonia used while producing the same amount of energy.

“We’re becoming a very green company,” Sarraino said.

People often look to the sixth-generation family business as an innovator and leader in matters concerning the environment, he said.

“It was important to us to make sure we’re doing our part in helping raise the bar.”
