Calavo boosts tomato acreage

Calavo Growers Inc. will have a 10% acreage increase in greenhouse round and roma tomatoes in Culiacan, West Mexico, this season.

Santa Paula, Calif.-based Calavo Growers Inc. will have a 10% acreage increase in greenhouse round and roma tomatoes in Culiacan, West Mexico, this season, said Brian Bernauer, director of operations and sales. The Culiacan deal will run mid-December through May.

Also at Calavo, Megan Stallings, most recently with San Miguel Produce Inc., Oxnard, Calif., was hired as sales account manager for tomatoes; and Spencer Smith, most recently with Sunkist Growers Inc., Valencia, Calif., was hired as a salesman.
