Fresh Farms’ bell pepper and corn volumes remain light due to earlier weather in the Florida and Mexico growing regions, but the overall quality has been outstanding mostly due to more temperate growing conditions, says Marco Serrano, sales representative for the Rio Rico, Ariz.-based company.

“If we had to use a term for the mostly markets, we would say steady,” Serrano said in a news release. “We won't see any promotable volumes until mid-January with green bell pepper and corn.”

Fresh Farms is currently growing green bell peppers, corn and colored bell peppers in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The company has expanded on all three commodities, with green bell peppers having the biggest increase, Serrano said in the release.

According to Serrano:
• The green bell pepper market has been steady in the high teens, with volume expected to increase in January.
• The corn market has been high, with demand exceeding supplies and more volume expected in January.
• Colored bell peppers are expected to start late December with good prices and demand.

“These staple commodities tend to move well, but giving the consumer recipe ideas, especially for grilling, will highly increase sales,” he said in the release. “All of these commodities are flavorful and healthy options with any meal.”
