Adding a new grow room, Faribault, Minn.-based Living Greens Farm is expanding its aeroponic growing space.
The company’s year-round farming operations will expand to 60,000 square feet, according to a news release. Aeroponics is the practice of suspending a plant’s roots in the air and spraying them with a nutrient-rich solution. The company said that its patented vertical plane design allows one acre to produce the equivalent of hundreds of conventional acres.
“Our patented growing technology has changed the game of aeroponics, within one year our new farm will save 24 million gallons of water and several hundred thousand miles of shipping — saving over 35,000 gallons of diesel and nearly a million pounds of CO2 emissions,” Dana Anderson, chairman and CEO of Living Greens Farm, said in the release. “With our third grow room, Living Greens Farms will nearly triple its capacity, move into major market segments and position the company for even stronger growth in 2019.”
The company’s website https://www.livinggreensfarm.com/fresh-greens indicates it markets a variety of packaged and clamshell greens, including whole butter lettuce (clamshell), romaine leaves (clamshell), chopped butter lettuce, romaine and butter crunch blend, leafy green chopped romaine, Caesar salad kit, basil, micro kale, micro arugula and micro house blend.
The release said the new grow room will allow an expansion of their consumer product line into new states, with supply now distributed to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota.
