Monterey Mushrooms plans to feature its vitamin D mushroom line at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit in Anaheim, Calif.

The company worked with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to achieve a higher concentration of vitamin D by replicating sunlight indoors, according to a news release.

The vitamin D mushrooms are available nationwide in 8-ounce and 16-ounce packages of sliced whites, sliced baby bellas and whole portabella caps, according to the release.

“We want people to know it’s easy to incorporate vitamin D into a daily diet with the help of mushrooms,” Mike O’Brien, vice president of sales and marketing, said in the release. “Many people are vitamin D deficient, and mushrooms specially labeled as being high in vitamin D are the only natural food in the produce aisle that may help boost this important vitamin in your diet.”

Monterey Mushrooms will be exhibiting Oct. 18-19 at booth No. 2848.

The company plans to give its retail and foodservice buyers an at-home test kit to learn their personal vitamin D levels and have a registered nurse at the booth educating visitors about the importance of vitamin D, according to the release.
