Dave Corsi, chairman of the Center for Produce Safety’s board of director for two years, has been succeeded by Vic Smith.
The change in CPS board leadership usually is noted during the annual CPS Symposium, which changed to a virtual event spread over five Tuesdays. The board leadership change was noted at the July 21 web seminar, the final one in the series.
Corsi is vice president of produce for Wegmans, and Smith is the CEO of JV Smith Cos.
“When you volunteer in a lead role for a very worthy organization, you always get more out of it than you’d ever imagine,” Corsi said, according to a news release. “Wegmans is noted for prioritizing and caring for our people above anything else, and in turn our people take great care of our customers. Similarly, for Center for Produce Safety, it’s about the people who surround and support CPS to help fuel produce food safety change.”
Smith said that the Center for Produce Safety demonstrates that the right cause can unite diverse stakeholders.
“While at this moment we face a unique time in our history, we must not lose sight of the vital mission of producing and delivering safe, wholesome produce day in and day out,” Smith said, according to the release. “I plan to work hard to keep CPS and our industry focused on its mission.”
The CPS had a board meeting June 25. New board members were named, with Joe Pezzini of Ocean Mist Farms, Dave Puglia of Western Growers and Max Teplitski of the Produce Marketing Association joining. Hank Giglas of Western Growers, Chuck Ross with the University of Vermont and Bob Whitaker of PMA retired from the board.
Drew McDonald, Taylor Fresh Foods, will continue to serve as chairman of the Technical Committee; and The Oppenheimer Group’s Doug Grant will continue as chairman of the Knowledge Transfer Task Force.
