The Food and Drug Administration says it has ended its outbreak investigation into fresh-cut and whole cantaloupes sold in September through early December.

According to the FDA, the recalled whole cantaloupes included:

  • Whole fresh cantaloupes with a label on the cantaloupe that says Malichita or Rudy, 4050 and Product of Mexico/produit du Mexique.
  • Retailers and wholesalers would have received recalled whole melons from Sofia Produce, doing business as TruFresh, in boxes labeled Malichita or Rudy; or from Crown Jewels Produce in boxes labeled Malichita/Z Farms; or from Pacific Trellis in corrugated cartons with certain lot codes.

The FDA also recalled pre-cut cantaloupe and products containing pre-cut cantaloupes.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also announced the end to the outbreak. It said the outbreak sickened 407 people in 44 states, while also being linked to 158 hospitalizations and six deaths.

Pritzker Hageman food safety lawyers filed a lawsuit to represent the family of a 13-month-old boy sickened by eating tainted cantaloupe.

The Public Health Agency of Canada confirmed more than 164 cases of salmonella, which hospitalized 61 people and caused seven deaths.

A law firm in Canada filed a lawsuit in Quebec and one in British Columbia in relation to the outbreak.
