Verdant Technologies, an agricultural technology and crop protection company, says the California Department of Pesticide Regulation has approved its HarvestHold Fresh for use on a variety of fruits and vegetables.

HarvestHold is a postharvest solution that is approved for use in broccoli, peaches, cucumbers and more, according to a news release. Verdant Technologies said HarvestHold can extend produce shelf life by up to 50% compared to conventional shipping methods.

It utilizes a novel delivery method for 1-methylcyclopropene. HarvestHold gradually releases 1-MCP in response to humidity, which provides each produce type the ideal amount over time from a sheet that is easily applied in the box of produce, the release said.

“The CDPR’s approval of HarvestHold Fresh in California is a game-changer for the produce industry,” said Matthew Aronson, chief revenue officer at Verdant Technologies. “As the nation’s agricultural powerhouse, California’s approval of HarvestHold Fresh will have far-reaching impacts on reducing food waste and improving sustainability throughout the supply chain. We’re not just extending shelf life; we’re revolutionizing how fresh produce reaches consumers, helping to ensure a high-quality eating experience.”
