Salinas, Calif.-based HeavyConnect has launched a food safety mobile application.

The app was developed in conjunction with California’s grower community, according to a news release, to automate paper-based processes that hinder an effective food safety processes.

The app is available at the Google Play Store for Android devices and the iTunes App Store for Apple devices. A HeavyConnect subscription, now set at a monthly fee of $25, is required for activation.

The app allows field-based employees to quickly and easily complete their food safety checklists from a smartphone or tablet, according to the release. The app allows documentation with notes, photos, and geolocation tags, according to the release.

In addition, food safety coordinators can monitor the data from a central, web-based dashboard and take corrective actions, according to the release.

The app meets the common grower need for a simple, bi-lingual user experience that anyone in the field can follow, according to the release.

“Finally, an efficient, user-friendly mobile app with “real-time” information for the food safety professional,” Jeff Saleen, director of food safety and security for Santa Maria, Calif.-based Bonipak Produce Inc., said in the release.
