Food safety will be a top concern in 2021, so the United Fresh Produce Association has a roster of food safety programs available in virtual seminars coming up in the new year to help industry professionals navigate this issue.

These sessions are three of 10 sessions offered in the United re-Fresh Experience.

  • 2-3:30 p.m. EST, Jan. 12: The Managing Food Safety Through Disruption and Crisis webinar, sponsored by Neogen, will share strategies to manage food safety and make it priority no matter the circumstances, even during tumultuous times such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Speakers include Jennifer McEntire, senior vice president of food safety and technology at United Fresh; Neil Checketts, vice president of food safety and quality at Mastronardi Produce; Natalie Dyenson, vice president of food safety and quality at Dole Food Co.; and Wendy Maduff, vice president of corporate food safety and quality at The Wonderful Co.
  • Noon to 5 p.m. EST, Jan. 27-28: The Virtual Recall Ready Workshop will leverage the expertise of food safety, legal and crisis communications teams who are versed in executing a recall during a crisis to protect public health. That includes complying with all government requirements and minimizing the potential repercussions to your business. This program is a partnership between United Fresh and the legal and communications experts at OFW Law and Watson Green, two of the food industry’s crisis counseling firms.
  • Noon to 5:30 p.m. EST, Feb. 8-11: The Virtual Foreign Supplier Verification Program will share how to implement the requirements of the Foreign Supplier Verification Programs. This training is designed for U.S.‐based importers that meet the definition of “importer” in the program rule, or other organizations interested in ensuring that the rule requirements are met. It’s helpful because less than 40% of the 1,200 importers inspected by the Food and Drug Administration in 2020 were FSVP-compliant.
