Houston-based Brothers Produce is providing needed distribution assistance to Houston Food Bank and its partners.

With food bank distribution on the increase with the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis, the Houston Food Bank was offered help by Brent Erenwert, CE of Brothers Produce, according to a news release.

“Brothers Produce offered up to 30 drivers and trucks to assist us in any capacity to initiate collaborative efforts,” Brian Greene, president and CEO of Houston Food Bank, said in the release. “Brothers committed to keep their employees under their payroll and while helping Houston Food Bank to get food out into the community.”

Houston Food Bank has used six of Brothers’ drivers with their trucks working from Monday to Friday, and the Brothers Produce drivers have been part of the Houston Food Bank’s retail pick-up program, by picking up an average of 60 pallets of fresh produce daily, the release said.

“We have seen storms and various disasters, but at this time there is no manual, Brent Erenwert, CEO of Brothers Produce, said in the release. “Our biggest concern right now is to keep the supply chain moving and our employees working. It is in times like this where we must all unite, come together, and conquer the tough times we are facing. Together we will all show why we are ‘Houston Strong.’”

Beyond logistical support, the food bank warehouse team has welcomed five warehouse helpers to assist with general activities.

“Houston Food Bank and its Partners provide essential services and we will continue to do so,” Greene said in the release. “The people served by Houston Food Bank, almost by definition, do not have the ability or the means to have food reserves, so we have ramped up distribution to meet the critical need. Brothers Produce is an invaluable partner during this times of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. We appreciate Brothers Produce for contributing and collaborating towards our mission to provide food for better lives.”
