Among the 19 exhibiting companies with products featured on the online Fresh Ideas showcase for the International Fresh Produce Association’s Foodservice Conference, here are some highlights of the products posted through July 13:
- CarbSmart Yellow Potatoes, Potandon Produce/Green Giant Fresh, Idaho Falls, Ida.: With 55% fewer carbs than rice or pasta, customers can indulge in the creamy texture and buttery flavor of this new potato variety, the company said.
- Rainbow Carrot Chips, Cal-Organic Farms, Bakersfield, Calif.: Rainbow carrot chips are a nutritious alternative to salty snacks and sweets since they’re loaded with beta carotene and are naturally low calorie and fat-free. Sold year-round, the rainbow carrot chips are available in 12-ounce retail packs and 5-pound bulk bags for foodservice, the company said.
- Gold Coast Packing, Santa Maria, Calif.: Gold Coast Packing’s new Chopped Cilantro lasts 16 days, the company said. The company has adjusted its process and packaging to ensure the fresh product stays fresh longer without compromising taste and scent.
- Naturipe Farms, Salinas, Calif.: Naturipe’s Smart Cups make USDA-recommended, 3-ounce school-snacking simple, according to the company. Flavors include Blueberries, Blueberry & Apple Blend, Blueberry & Grape Blend, Strawberries with Calyx, Grape & Apple Blend, and Grapes, the company said.
- Deli Leaf, Misionero Vegetables, Gonzales, Calif.: Misionero’s Deli Leaf is a greenberg hybrid lettuce, crunchy and smooth, with ruffled edges, according to the company.
- Cloud 9 Bite-Sized Fruity Tomatoes, Pure Flavor, Leamington, Ontario: As a 2021 winner of the International Taste Institute’s Superior Taste Award, Cloud 9 tomatoes have been recognized by the world’s most professional jury of taste experts, the company said.
- Deli Gem Leaf, Taylor Farms Foodservice, Salinas, Calif.: The Deli Gem hybrid lettuce variety grows year-round and is greener and sweeter than traditional iceberg lettuce varieties. The company said the target leaf size is 4 to 6 inches in length on average, and the leaves present good rib strength and crisp texture, and create a cup formation. The Deli Gem Leaf is great for wraps, sandwich toppers, taco cups and other “cup” applications. It is machine-packed in a 1-pound bag that yields an average of 75-80 leaves per bag.
- Washed & Trimmed Romaine Lettuce, Church Brothers Farms, Salinas, Calif.: A 2 by 5-pound carton of Washed & Trimmed Romaine has washed, whole heads with the butt ends removed, according to the company.
- Mini Honeyglow Pineapple, Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. Inc., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.: The Del Monte Mini Honeyglow Pineapple is the newest member of the Honeyglow family.
- Simply Good Jars, Philadelphia, Pa.: Simply Good Jars delivers premium, fresh meal solutions powered by the company’s patent-published Smart Jar Technology, according to the company. The company is a B-Corporation, and for every jar that consumers recycle and divert from landfills and oceans, the company donates one meal with Feeding America.
- North Bay Produce, Traverse City, Mich.: The company’s grower/partner in Guatemala offers Brussels sprouts, French yellow beans, conventional and organic French green beans, snow peas and snap peas derived from proprietary seeds at the grower’s farms, which will soon be totally carbon-neutral, according to the company.
- Kingston Fresh, Idaho Falls, Idaho: Kingston Fryer Gold potatoes are new to the company’s lineup of frying potatoes. Eight years in development, the Kingston Fryer Gold has fewer calories, uses less oil and produces a light, golden fry, according to the company.
- Ocean Mist Farms, Castroville, Calif.: The company’s labor-saving, value-added, fresh-cut foodservice packs provide operators a 100% usable, recipe-ready solution for high-quality, cost-effective menu items, according to the company.
- Westmoreland, TopLine Farms, Leamington , Ontario: With plastic-free English cucumbers, TopLine Farms and Apeel Sciences have teamed up to help reduce the use of single-use plastics in the greenhouse industry while maintaining product shelf life and freshness.
- Jicama Wraps, Noodles, Sticks & Matchsticks, JicaFoods, Berkely, Calif.: Jicama is a low-carb, low-calorie, high-fiber vegetable native to Mexico. The company suggests using jicama wraps to replace any tortilla, and the marketer’s jicama noodles can be used as a base for a poke bowl. Add crunch to any salad with jicama matchsticks and eat some jicama stick with the firm’s cilantro lime seasoning, the company said.
- Sunrise Fresh LLC, Stockton Calif: For operators looking for a healthy, no-sugar-added snack have new choices as Sunrise Fresh introduces California Peach and California Pear Snack Packs to its line. The unsweetened dried peaches and pears join Sunrise Fresh’s Dried Sweet Cherries in single-serving, 1-ounce bags. “We’ve had Cherries in the smaller size for a couple of year and people kept asking us for the other fruits and we finally got space on the line to do it,” Sunrise Fresh CEO Jacob Samuel said in a news release.
