The Platinum Packaging Group, Paramount, Calif., and Terphane have been working together to provide companies with the ability to pack prepared meals with an emphasis on food safety.

As consumer demand rose for the prepared meals during the COVID-19 pandemic, Platinum Packaging turned to Terphane for its specialty polyester post-consumer recycled films. Platinum Packaging serves a wide range of customers, including schools, commissaries and airlines, according to a news release.

In recent months, Platinum Packaging has seen demand of meal kit packaging soar, especially from nonprofits. For example, one organization went from serving 2,000 meals a day to 8,500 meals a day during the pandemic, according to the release.

The company has changed the way it does business to meet the pandemic needs of customers, such as leasing its equipment to companies that prepare meals, so they can package them on-site.

“While in many cases the way food is packaged may look and feel differently in the future, our focus and commitment are to convenience and continuously strengthening food safety,” Ezra Bowen, sales manager of North America at Terphane, said in the release. “The benefit to consumers is higher security and improved food quality.”

Terphane and Platinum Packaging collaborate to deliver a complete system approach to the production of prepared meals, according to the release.
