McDonald's Corp. honored Taylor Farms with its Self-Managed Excellence award for its food safety, quality and sustainability efforts.

The Salinas, Calif.-based company is the first business to ever receive this award, according to a news release.

Taylor Farms has been supplying McDonald's with iceberg lettuce and tomatoes for more than 20 years, the release said.

The efforts the company was awarded for include:

  • Bruce Taylor, founder and CEO, encouraging the produce industry to address labor issues;
  • Its contingency plan for assuring supply through the diversification of growing regions in North America; and
  • Supporting McDonald's in the U.S. and throughout the world with its supply chain.
