This year, Fyffes completed its first corporate-wide Human Rights Impact Assessment and published its Global Human Rights Policy and Statement.

The company’s Global Sustainability Steering Committee recently endorsed the Human Rights Mitigation and Management Plan, which “provides a framework to manage, mitigate and help resolve identified human rights risks,” according to a news release.

Nonprofit consulting firm BSR has worked with Fyffes to assess five countries — Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Honduras — for human rights risks, and highlighted 13 of the most relevant risks for Fyffes, according to the release.

The mitigation plan includes steps the company is taking, including:

  • Implementing Fyffes Gender Equality Program;
  • Identifying environment and health-related issues and solutions;
  • Engaging with and supporting the Living Wage initiative;
  • Reducing security threats through training and community program; and
  • Establishing a child labor protocol.

“Fyffes has recently published its Global Human Rights Policy and Statement, which sets out our commitment to protecting the human rights of all our stakeholders, including our employees,” Julie Cournoyer, Fyffes global director of sustainability, said in the release. “This policy is brought to life through training and internal protocols.”
