Alliance Rubber Co. is nearing the homestretch leading up to its centennial anniversary on March 7, 2023.

The Hot Springs, Ark.-based company, and the only manufacturer of rubber bands in the U.S., has more than 2,400 SKUs of mailing, shipping, office and packaging products sold through distributors around the world, according to a news release. That includes solutions for the produce and floral industries.

The 100-year history began when William H. Spencer formed Alliance Rubber Co. on March 7, 1923, after he had tested the idea of cutting bands by hand from inner tubes.

Spencer pursued unique uses for rubber bands for many markets, including promoting them as a practical and versatile replacement for twine, which was the dominant bundling tool of the time, according to the release. He marketed rubber bands to the ag industry as well as retail shops and industrial factories.

Alliance Rubber Co., now in its fourth generation of family ownership, has worked to meet demands of the current market, to remain sensitive to the pressures of the present environment and to be in touch with customers’ needs, according to the release. The company said it has continually developed manufacturing principles to perfect processes, boost innovation and reduce time to market in a fast-paced and ever-changing global marketplace.

Alliance Rubber Co. President Bonnie Spencer Swayze attributes the company’s success to strong relationships with associates, customers and the community.

“We have survived and thrived in economic conditions that have eliminated all other American band manufacturers. This level of success cannot be achieved without solid, strong and lasting relationships built on trust, communication and loyalty,” she said in the release.

Spencer Swayze called the company’s 150 employees “the backbone of our organization.”

“Their passion for delivering exceptional service and quality work is what defines us and enables us to deliver the world’s best banding products to our customers in more than 60 countries around the world,” she said in the release.

“We are grateful for our loyal customers. We know there are many choices in the marketplace, yet our customers believe in our value proposition and have continually trusted us to fulfill their needs throughout the years,” she added.
