Reuters reports USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service inspections of avocados and mangoes in the Mexican state of Michoacán are gradually restarting.
This comes after two APHIS inspectors were among a group caught in a road blockade led by community police forces in the state of Michoacán. The inspectors were reportedly detained and assaulted.
“It’s still necessary to make progress to guarantee the safety (of the health safety inspectors) before we can achieve full functioning,” Ken Salazar, U.S. ambassador to Mexico, said in a statement, the news agency reported.
