Students at 17 Michigan schools will have more options for fresh fruits and vegetables, thanks to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and United Fresh Start Foundation.

Through the Salad Bars to Schools initiative, of which the foundation is a founding partner, 91 salad bards have been placed in Michigan schools since 2015, according to a news release.

“We at Blue Cross are proud to continue this collaborative effort that has empowered more than 45,000 Michigan students statewide to make healthier choices at school,’” Lynda Rossi, executive vice president of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, said in the release.

The salad bar initiative has helped place salad bars at more than 5,600 U.S. schools.

“This partnership demonstrates the value of collaboration with like-minded organizations to benefit our children and empower their healthy choices each day,” Tom Stenzel, president and CEO of the United Fresh Produce Association, said in the release.
