New York City-based Continental Grain Co. (Conti) has announced an investment in global berry marketer Agroberries, according to a news release.

Santiago, Chile-based Agroberries sells more than 50,000 metric tons of berries annually from 5,000 acres in five countries, primarily to customers in North America and Europe, according to the release. Agroberries also has offices in the U.S. and the Netherlands and is a marketer of both conventional and organic berries, according to the release.

Conti’s investment will enable Agroberries to expand its production assets and global distribution capabilities and introduce premium varieties, according to the release.

“I’m excited about the possibilities arising from our partnership with Conti, and confident it will accelerate our global expansion plans, give our customers increased access to our novel proprietary varieties, and offer exciting professional development opportunities for our management team,” Jorge Varela, co-founder and CEO of Agroberries, said in the release.
