Fresh produce distributor Oppy has added Peruvian blueberries to its Happy Berry lineup starting in mid-August.
First launched with hydroponic strawberries, the Happy Berry label will now expand to highlight consistency, sweetness and firm texture in conventional blueberries. The fruit will be packaged in standard pint and 18-ounce containers for retail sale.
The company says it launched its Happy Berry brand to represent memorable berry experiences around consumer appeal and high quality. Oppy says Happy Berry blueberries will provide retailers with a differentiated conventional offering and deliver qualities to encourage repeat purchases.
Alongside the Happy Berry launch, Oppy is adding Peruvian sourcing to its Hunkaberry jumbo blueberry program to supplement its California crop and extend year-round availability.
“Happy Berry has always stood for a berry experience consumers can feel good about choosing,” Tim Crane, blueberry category manager at Oppy, says. “We’ve seen strong response to the brand because it represents quality, freshness and great taste. This blueberry program is a natural extension of that promise, bringing those same attributes to a category where consumers are looking for consistency and better eating experiences.”
