The Canadian Produce Marketing Association’s Plastic Packaging Working Group has met for the first time, and has outlined some goals.

The group plans to collect data, including consumer perception reviews, information on industry practices, and consultations with companies on product design, single-use plastics and collection systems.

“CPMA, with the support of its members and allied partners, hopes to support efforts within our sector to ensure we have a vision based on sound science and business best practices that allows the opportunity for the produce industry to identify, prioritize and implement systems-wide changes,” according to a news release.

The group plans to meet again in July and determine objectives about:

  • Identifying challenges/opportunities facing the industry, and its relative importance in reducing total plastic waste in Canada and globally;
  • Investigating innovations that can eliminate single-use plastics;
