The Manfredi Cos., with locations in Kennett Square, Pa., and Pedricktown, N.J., has some big upgrades in the works, said Jackie Manfredi Basciani, director of sales and marketing.
Construction is underway on a two-story, 5,000-square-foot drivers’ lounge and cafeteria for drivers and employees at the company’s Pennsylvania location.
“The drivers lounge will feature kiosks for automated check-in and checkout, Wi-Fi, new bathrooms and seating area,” she said.
The second floor will offer daily menus and prepared foods, coffee, soup and snacks.
Another construction project in Pennsylvania should be finished by the first quarter of 2025.
“We are opening a dry building for storage of our customers’ packaging materials,” Manfredi Basciani said.
And construction of Phase 3 of a project that will add 4,000 pallet positions and 15,000 square feet of packing space is underway at the firm’s Pedricktown location.
“When our New Jersey facility is complete, the final buildout will total 600,000 square feet of warehouse space and total capacity of 32,000 pallet positions,” she said.
The Manfredi Cos. offers food-grade cold storage solutions, consolidation, repacking, pre-cooling, cold treatment, ripening, inspection and reconditioning services.
“We have an in-house drayage company hauling product in daily from the Delaware River waterfront,” Manfredi Basciani said.
The company also offers brokerage services all over the U.S. and has a logistics division that handles transportation on asset-based/company-owned equipment throughout the mid-Atlantic and Northeast with daily lanes into the Midwest, she said.
Manfredi recently introduced a daily market shuttle that moves less-than-truckloads and full truckloads into the New York market.
Manfredi Cold Storage, established in 1986, specializes in chilled fruit, food and frozen foodstuff that requires temperatures from 0-55 degrees.
“About 90% of our business is imported fruit from around the world,” Manfredi Basciani said. “On the produce side we handle everything from berries, kiwi, citrus, grapes, stone fruit, avocado and melons just to name a few.”
The firm’s main produce customers are direct importers, produce shippers and growers.
Manfredi is audited by PrimusLabs and is certified to handle organic products, she said.
