Charlotte, N.C.-based A M King has completed construction of a south Texas distribution center for Mexico-based GAB Operations.

The 45,590-square-foot facility “will provide increased cold storage capacity for fresh produce and serve as a hub for the company’s U.S. and Canadian customers,” according to a news release.

The Laredo, Texas-based distribution center is located in the Pinnacle Industry Center, just minutes from the Rio Grande River/World Trade Bridge border crossing and Laredo International Airport, the release said. It also neighbors another A M King project, the recently built, 262,000-square-foot Mission Produce ripening, processing and distribution center.

“A M King designed and built an excellent facility for us in Laredo,” said Jaime Usabiaga, GAB general manager, in the news release. “Because we’ll have storage for an additional two million pounds of frozen produce, plus day-holding capacity for fresh, we will not have to rely on outside storage and can provide faster delivery and service to our customers.”

In addition to a cold storage warehouse, the new distribution center will include a 4,570-square-foot office area, open enough to allow employees to social distance more easily, a trucker dormitory, 10 drive-thru dock positions, a forced air cooler and vertical leveler lengths for cargo flexibility, the release said.
