Pacific Coast Fruit spins off trading company

(Pacific Coast Fruit Co.)

Portland, Ore.-based produce distributor Pacific Coast Fruit Co. has announced the spinoff of its subsidiary, Pacific Coast Trading Co. LLC.

The move will allow the spinoff opportunity for more efficient growth beyond the I-5 corridor and a focused specialization in products, according to a news release. Pacific Coast Trading Co. LLC will retain the same ownership, the release said.

Operating as a separate business entity will allow Pacific Coast Trading Co. to invest in specialized employees and strategically placed warehouses, to increase its buying power and to help distribute a vast variety of produce from both large and small growers, according to the release.

“We’re excited that our business is evolving as we expand our strong partner relationships, to seamlessly connect growers, sellers and customers with an unmatched level of service,”  David Nemarnik, CEO of Pacific Coast Trading Co., said in the release.

“Maintaining the viability of land for the next generation is critical in the longevity in both our business and the health of the planet. We believe that quality produce comes from quality growers, and will continue to seek organic growing practices, advanced traceability, proper certifications and full transparency to promote the health of people and the planet through sustainable agriculture.”

Distribution centers in key locations will support the growth of the spinoff. Pacific Coast Trading Co. has  recently opened a distribution center in Nogales, Ariz., its eighth distribution center across the country. The company has other locations in Portland, Ore., Kent, Wash., Los Angeles,  Miami, Philadelphia, Colfax, N.C.,  and McAllen, Texas.

The company anticipates opening more facilities across the country to help supply chain efforts when working with international growers, the release said.

The company’s  commitment to sustainable practices inspired the creation of Grown Up Organics, the release said, a private label for the high-quality organic produce. As a separate company, Pacific Coast Trading Co. has increased flexibility in developing its Grown Up Organics brand.

As a separate entity, Pacific Coast Trading Co. will pursue new opportunities for expansion, as well as the ability to grow its workforce and geographic footprint.

With a new LLC business model, Pacific Coast Trading Co. is ready to assist small-scale producers, offering distribution on the ground in Mexico, Canada, Peru and throughout Central America, according to the release.

With representation on the ground in Mexico, Pacific Coast Trading Co. will be working to develop new offerings and relationships with growers, the release said. The company said that Pacific Coast Fruit Co. family founder Emil Nemarnik’s legacy was “always being close” to the grower community.

As part of the spinoff , a new website was created to support the Pacific Coast Trading Co. and its service business model, according to the release.
