ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Potato Leadership, Education, & Advancement Foundation (LEAF) on Jan. 5 announced the results of its inaugural fundraising campaign at the 2022 Potato Expo.

The Founders Society Campaign netted $2.158 million in pledges to fund leadership development programs within the U.S. potato industry, foundation officials said.

“Only two years after launching the foundation – and during a time of incredible uncertainty – it is remarkable to think that our industry could collectively contribute this amount of funding,” Shelley Olsen, a grower from Othello, Wash. and chair of the Potato LEAF board of directors, said in a news release. “The industry’s response validates that creation of the foundation was the right thing to ensure future leaders in the industry.”

Pledges and all other contributions to Potato LEAF will be used to fund programs to strengthen the leadership skills of individuals in the industry, according to the release. Current programs include the Potato Industry Leadership Institute, the annual $10,000 graduate-level scholarship and the Leadership Institute’s Alumni Summit.
