Renowned academic to be keynote speaker at Western Growers annual meeting

Western Growers has announced that Dr. Temple Grandin will be the kickoff keynote speaker at the group’s 97th annual meeting in Hawaii.

The event is set for Nov. 12-15 at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa, according to a news release.

Mary Temple Grandin is an American academic and animal behaviorist. She is a champion of the humane treatment of livestock, autism rights and inclusive neurodiversity by employing her gifted insights from her personal experience with autism and visual thinking, according to the release.

As a faculty member with animal sciences at Colorado State University, she was named as one of the top 10 college professors in the U.S. in 2020, the release said.

She is the author of more than 60 scientific papers on animal behavior, and more than a dozen books on animal behavior and autism, including her latest New York Times bestselling, book, “Visual Thinking,” according to the release.

Through her research and personal triumph, Grandin has enlightened the world about the humane handling of food animals and the unlimited possibility of the human spirit, the release said.
