SEPC auction to fund Hurricane Irma relief

SEPC auction to fund Hurricane Irma relief

The Southeast Produce Council has set up an auction to fund Hurricane Irma relief efforts after the storm affected many SEPC members.

“We have heard from about 25 companies that have had medium to severe damage,” said David Sherrod, president and CEO of the organization. “Most have said it was short-term issues, but some of our citrus companies say that the damage looks to be long-term in areas.”

Auction items include sports memorabilia, travel experiences, spirits packages and more.

“The great thing about the SEPC is how fast we can react to our members’ needs,” Sherrod said. “We have worked with ExpoAuctions in the past and they do such a good job with these types of auctions. When we called them a week or so ago, they said they would make sure it was successful.”

Silent bidding will close Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. Bids can be submitted online or via text message.

“Our hope and prayer is that every dollar raised is a blessing to those that need it,” Sherrod said. “This storm was literally in our backyard and we want to help as much as we possibly can. I urge everyone to go online and make a bid or donation to this effort.”
